First Grade Winter Olympics- Luge

Buy video

I am a first grade teacher at an elementary school in Greenville, South Carolina. I teach at a high poverty school, but you would never know it walking through the doors! I teach the cutest first graders you have ever seen :) We are currently on day 4 of indoor recess... which to a 6 year old is complete torture. To spice things up a bit we've been watching the Olympics. Today I had a brilliant stroke of genius- we could re-enact the Olympics right here in our classroom!

Our final event in today's First Grade Winter Olympics was the luge. This brave boy (who, as I'm sure you all remember, earned bronze in Sochi) couldn't wait to show off his moves. He got on his judges-approved board and rounded each bend perfectly. He finished his run in RECORD time and was able to catch that Gold Medal for Team USA. The luge was the final event in a historic day for First Grade Olympics, where Team USA SWEPT away the competition with 4 gold medals!
