Russian artist Nikolay Polissky created a show-stopping sculpture of a gothic looking cathedral built of twigs and branches spanning 30m tall for the annual Maslenitsa festival on Saturday (17 Feb).

Polissky who is an architect built the church as a bonfire in a 'gothic way' for the tradition of building a construction in seasoned branches and burning them to celebrate the end of winter.

The festival also celebrates the last week before lent where the participants are allowed to eat anything that is a dairy product in anticipation of giving them up for the lent period.
