+WARNING: CONTAINS MULTIPLE SWEAR WORDS+

A strike at the University of Sussex turned ugly yesterday (February 22) when protesters interrupted a lecture, calling on fellow students to join the walkout.

In the video, filmed by a student from inside the lecture theatre in Brighton, protesters can be heard outside shouting "Leave your lecture! Join the strike!"

The door is open as university staff attempt to quiet the crowd.

Writes the filmer: "In my psychology lecture, some protesters interrupted us and tried to get us to join their protest by shouting for several minutes."

Upset by the racket, two students went to close the doors and one of them allegedly assaulted a protester.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the Sussex Supports the Strike group wrote: “One of our marchers was assaulted by a student when we disrupted the lecture. The marcher in question was violently tackled into a wooden table by another student.”

Lecturers at more than 50 universities around the UK went on strike yesterday in a row over changes to staff pensions.
