A foreign passenger caught smoking on the Beijing underground engaged in a furious rant at fellow passengers last week.

The man, described locally as a foreign national, repeatedly swore at others on a Beijing underground train after he was asked to stop smoking.

The unsavoury incident took place on the Beijing Metro Line 2 on February 24.

A Chinese commuter can be heard saying in English to the man: "F*** off back to your country, OK?"

The foreigner shouts back: "This is my country. It's called the Middle Kingdom!"

The Chinese commuter replies: "Here is China".

But the rude passenger raises his voice even further and screams: "It's called the Middle Kingdom!" while holding his cigarette.

According to local reports, the foreign man got angry after a Chinese commuter had told him: "Put out your cigarette or leave China."

In the end, three Chinese men grabbed his cigarette and put it off.

Video of the incident quickly went viral in China.

No further details about the man are available.
