This is the moment a rubbish truck sideswipes a pair of parked luxury Mercedes, causing thousands of pounds of damage.

CCTV footage shows the bin lorry picking up rubbish outside offices in Peterborough, UK.

After the bin men complete their rounds and their vehicle pulls away, the tail end of the massive truck crunches into a black Mercedes CLA AMG Sport and a Mercedes GLC next to it.

The alarmed owners of the vehicles are seen walking out to observe the destruction.

The owner of the luxury vehicle said the damage to the cars, which belong to him and his father, was extensive.

He said: "There was not a scratch on the truck, but my father and I were left with a £15,000 ($21,000) insurance claim and no ride home."

He added: "The CLA came off worst, requiring three pages worth of itemised repairs including the replacement of the entire right hand side, rear tail light, boot lid, a diamond cut alloy wheel and practically a full respray.

"The restoration work took over five weeks in total.

"The GLC was out of action for a fortnight requiring a wheel replacement and some minor bodywork and a respray to the left hand side."

The video was captured on August 8 last year.

It was a warm summer's afternoon in Peterborough, England when the tranquil sound the birds singing in the trees was rudely shattered by the deafening sound of metal upon metal in an altercation between a garbage truck and our two prestige Mercedes cars (a CLA AMG Sport and GLC).

As you will see in the video, the truck is routinely collecting our weekly trash and is positioned very close our cars. Once the contents of our bins have been deposited, the driver pauses to wait for another vehicle to pass. Keen to move on to his next collection, he forgets to drive forward before turning the wheel. Instead he turns the wheel whilst stationary causing the tail end of the garbage truck to swing round sharply as he pulls forward. The tail lift bar on the rear of the truck catches the back end of the Mercedes CLA AMG Sport and drags it into the Mercedes GLC and in turn, the GLC into the kerb. The garbage truck finally frees itself from the CLA but not before it has reduced the rear right tail light to an assorted mix of shards of glass, plastic and LEDs.

The video ends with us walking out of our office to be greeted with a scene of devastation..

The kerb the GLC was pushed into didn’t escape lightly either and now exhibits an impressive scar in in the form of a large crack to remind us of that fateful afternoon.
