An injured sloth bear mauled a man to death near a forest in Nabaragpur in Odisha, India earlier this month.

Prabhu Bhatra, a truck driver, was attacked by the bear when he was trying to take a selfie after getting down from his vehicle, said media reports.

However, a few other reports said Bhatra had got down from his vehicle to attend nature’s call when he came under attack.

A few onlookers tried to save the man but the animal refused to let him go and eventually killed him.

A video taken by a local captured the gory attack.

Forest officials rushed to the area and had to tranquillize the bear before they could recover the body.

The state government has announced compensation for Bhatra’s family.

Locals have urged the officials to take measures to reduce incidents of bear-human conflict in the area.
