Women 'beaten for wearing rainbow badges' at Beijing arts event
This is the moment security guards beat two women for allegedly wearing rainbow badges at an LGBT event in Beijing on Sunday (May 13).
Mobile phone video shows around five security guards surrounding the women and clashing with the two at an arts space, the Beijing 798 Art Zone, on May 13.
In the melee, one is thrown to the ground.
In another clip, seen here at 11 seconds in, a guard can be seen punching the other woman - wearing shorts and a white T-shirt - in the face and knocking her down.
The videos and any mention of the incident online have since been removed by the Chinese authorities.
According to local reports, two women were stopped by the security guards as they said anyone wearing rainbow badges were not allowed to enter the arts space.
After an argument, the intense brawl ensued.
According to local news, an activist planned to give out 5,000 rainbow badges near the entrance to the venue to promote the upcoming International Day Against Homophobia, which takes place tomorrow (May 17).
Two women were both treated in hospital, as one suffered facial stitches and the other had bruises.
The security guards apologised and those involved have reportedly been fired.
