Alex Galorneau, from Avon Park, Florida, strolls onstage as his name is called to receive his end-of-school certificate in a video shot on May 19.
But to everyone's surprise, he removes his mortarboard and performs the stunt, before cooly resuming shaking everyone's hands.
Galorneau writes: "When I finally taught myself to do a backflip I said to myself that would backflip at my graduation – no matter what – to show just how happy I truly was!"
