Motorists in New York city honk their horns at groups of people standing in the middle of the road to capture the "Manhattanhenge" phenomenon.

Footage filmed on July 12 shows large groups of people taking selfies in the middle of pedestrian crossings despite traffic lights being green for cars.

The sight occurs twice a year when the sunset – and in winter, sunrise – aligns with Manhattan's famous gridlike street system.

It is named after the ancient British stone structure of Stonehenge.

The filmer writes: "[I] was amazed at everyone standing in the middle of the road when the light cycle turned green for the motor vehicles."
