A dramatic scene played out in London on Sunday morning as two heroic members of the public managed to persuade a suicidal man not to jump from Blackfriars Bridge.

The distressed individual had climbed over the guardrail of the bridge and was sitting on the ledge on the other side.

With river police waiting beneath the bridge in a boat, the first good Samaritan manages to cling onto the troubled man, reassuring him all the while.

After several minutes, he is joined by another member of the public who also does his best to calm the individual and hold him by the arm.

When two police officers arrive, the suicidal man appears to agree to climb back to the safety of the other side of the guardrail.

The two heroic members of the public and the police officers help to haul him to safety.
