A bizarre video has emerged of a NASCAR fan climbing a safety fence during a race in Virginia, USA on Saturday.

The man, who was later charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct, can be seen sitting shirtless on top of the fence while the high-speed race continues below.

After realising the danger, race officials brought out the yellow (caution) flag while the man was brought safely down.

According to local reports, the 53 year old man later told police that he pulled the stunt because it was his birthday and he wanted to be on national TV.
