Mackerel feeding frenzy St.Leonards on sea

Buy video

5.45 am sunrise, the sea was boiling with mackerel herding whitebait into the shallows. The sound was immense like a tropical rainstorm beating at jungle leaves. With spectacular speed and focus the mackerel darted at their prey like something out of a piranha horror movie. A twice yearly phenomenon along the coastline of Hastings and St.Leonards, when the sea has been warmed by the summer sun. Silver slithers of whitebait became stranded along the shoreline as they leapt to avoid a certain fate.. only to be taken by the seagulls. Big fish little fish - food for all.
It was thrilling to see.
