Plane drops retardant on Gorge Fire in Shasta County

Firefighters battled a 75-acre brush fire near Platina in Shasta County, California, on August 19.

According to local media, the fire started at around 7:30 am off Highway 36 west around Beegum Gorge Road.

In the afternoon, it was reported that the fire was 20 percent contained and that forward spread had been stopped. As of an update around 2 pm, road closures, including for Highway 36, remained in place.
