This male leopard had tormented people of a village in Coimbatore district for nearly eight months.

The feline would stalk the village frequently and carry off dogs and sheep.

Villagers and forest officials had tried several measures, including bursting crackers, to keep the animal away from the village.

Under pressure from villagers, who feared for their safety, forest officials decided to catch the rogue leopard.

They lured the leopard with a dog and managed to trap it in a cage on the morning of August 29. They released it the same evening at a distant forest.

As the forest officials opened the door of the cage, the leopard sprinted to its freedom without looking back.
