British artist turns metallic coating from old CDs into shiny, one-of-a-kind portraits

This artist is giving old technology – CDs, floppy disks and videotapes – new life by incorporating them into his work.

Nicholas Gentry encourages people on social media to send him the obsolete items, using them as an artistic medium. In the video, he can be seen scratching the silver coating off CDs into shavings, blending them into paint, and using the mixture in his shiny portrait pieces.

The 38-year-old utilises the outdated storage devices to express the feeling of time passing through his portraits displayed at the Human Connection exhibition at London's Opera Gallery.
