This beautiful orange sky appeared after severe storms in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.

The region around the greater metropolitan area of Buenos Aires was hit by heavy rainfall, powerful gusts of wind, and hailstones as big as golf balls on September 22.

The National Meteorological Service issued severe weather warnings, and there were reports of damage to vehicles and to property.

However once the heavy rains had abated at between 6 pm and 7:30 pm on Sunday the residents of the Argentinian coastal region were treated to intense yellow skies, and strange otherworldly cloud formations.

One local headline proclaimed: "The Day the Sky In Buenos Aires Became An Instagram Filter."

Social media commentators were quick to post photos of the striking metallic tones that coloured the skies above them, at times accompanied by clusters of strange oval-shaped clouds.

One wrote: "Buenos Aires has just gifted us the most beautiful yellow sky." Another added: "Today Buenos Aires is yellow!"

However, some found the unusually vivid skies a little disturbing.

An observer from a nearby conurbation wrote: "The sky in Moreno today is terrifying."

Most residents however clearly enjoyed the spectacle which they compared to the unusually intense pink skies that had appeared above the city just two years ago.
