Sulawesi Airport destroyed after 7.5-magnitude earthquake rocks Indonesia island
This recently emerged footage shows Mutiara SIS Al-Jufrie Airport in the aftermath of the September 28 earthquake that killed almost 2,000 on the Indonesia island.
In the video, parts of the ceiling can be seen to have fallen through, and rubble is littered in piles on the floor. This was filmed by photographer Richard Alma on October 2, four days after the devastating disaster.
The airport reopened the Monday after the quake, though many hotels in Palu have suspended bookings for the time being.
According to authorities, more than 5,000 are still feared missing. A process known as soil licquefaction – where soil becomes saturated with water, causing it to erupt into torrents that topple buildings – is likely responsible for thousands of victims unaccounted for.
