Residents of Welikanda in Sri Lanka were faced with a huge problem on Friday: how to remove a wild elephant stuck at the bottom of a deep well.

Locals first noticed the terrified animal on Friday morning and realised there was no way it was going to haul itself from the 25-feet-deep water source.

They used a digger to enlarge the well and then created a kind of exit ramp for the elephant.

Unfortunately, some rocks and other debris fell on the wild creature during the rescue effort.

However, after one and a half hours of digging, the elephant was freed and quickly ran to the safety of the jungle.

A Elephant had fallen into a 25 feet well in Welikanda in Srilanka. The locals noticed the elephant in the well and launched an operation to save the elephant.With the help of JCB machine the local started digging the well from the sides.Due to the narrow well the elephant couldn't even move and it body was stuck in the well.The rescuers dig the well so deep and reached the elephant.The frightened elephant managed to come out of the well and rushed to the forest.Fire crackers was used to push the elephant in to the jungle.It took nearly one and half hours for the villagers to rescue the elephant.The rescued elephant moved to a safer location in the jungle.
