The number of casualties from the deadly floods that hit the southwest regions of France has risen to 14, media reported on October 17.

Three months of rainfall was dumped overnight Sunday to Monday in the region of Carcassonne, causing rivers to burst their banks and inundating roads. Recent footage of the aftermath shows destroyed structures severely destroyed by the heavy rains.

This video, filmed October 15, shows boats half-submerged in a flood river.

The worst flooding took place in the medieval town of Trebes, where six people were killed by flash floods which overturned cars, gutted streets and swamped hundreds of homes, officials said.

Clean-up efforts are currently underway in affected areas, and President Emmanuel Macron's office said he would visit the affected areas "as soon as possible".
