The jeepney driver suffered the mechanical disaster while he was ferrying passengers round Marikina City, the Philippines, on October 19.

Instead of giving up work and take the vehicle to be repaired, he simply attached a metal grip wrench to the steering column and directed the taxi with his new unorthodox device.

Onlooker Rei Gallardo said: "There were two students in front of me who saw the broken steering wheel. That's when I noticed that he is using only a vice grip to drive the jeep."
