London cycling, Row with car driver

Cycling to work in London along a stretch of road where there is no cycle lane, it's an open stretch so I was travelling at approximately 25mph. After checking it was clear I moved out to pass a cyclist, I could see another cyclist just ahead so I stayed out to pass that cyclist also.

As I reached that cyclist I checked over my shoulder again and saw a car baring down on my very quickly (approx 35 - 40 mph). The driver was leaning on the horn as he approached me. I quickly aborted my pass on the other cyclist and swerved in as the car passed me very closely at speed.

I caught up with the motorist and asked why he didn't wait for me to complete my pass on the other cyclist. He told me that I shouldn't be out in the road and shouldn't be cycling at 30mph (implying he was speeding as he was travelling significantly faster than me).
