Crowds gathered yesterday evening (December 6) in Trafalgar Square for the annual switch-on of the Christmas tree lights, a major tradition for the city of London.

The tree was donated by the people of Norway, in an annual tradition since 1947, in gratitude for Britain's support during the Second World War.

This year's tree measures 21 metres high and 70 years old.
