Climbers in South Africa make heartwarming rescue of dogs trapped on cliffside

What started out as a normal Saturday morning training exercise on a cliff side took a dramatic turn when the distressed cries of a dog were heard. The training exercise was put on hold and a search operation begun. Some time later, two teams converged on the same area of cliff face to find not one but two dogs trapped on a ledge below them. Whilst the teams set up equipment, I returned to the vehicle to retrieve a specialised dog rescue harness. The video begins with me arriving at the cliff top with the harness to access the dogs and secure them for hoisting out. The whole operation from the time we heard the cries to the time we handed the dogs over to the SPCA inspector took just over 3 hours.

Unfortunately the second dog to come up could not be saved as her condition was so severe that the veterinary doctors had to put her down. The other dog however is responding well to treatment and will be up for adoption in the coming weeks.
