A video has emerged of a grey seal giving birth on a beach at a nature reserve in Lincolnshire, UK.

The footage, captured by a visitor to the Donna Nook National Nature Reserve earlier this month, shows a seal known as “Ropeneck” giving birth to her pup on the sand.

According to the filmer, the seal got her name because she arrived at the sanctuary one year tangled in fishing rope, which staff had to cut off her.

The reserve’s website states: “For much of the year the grey seals are at sea or hauled out on distant sandbanks.”

“Every November and December, the seals give birth to their pups near the sand dunes: a wildlife spectacle which attracts visitors from across the UK.”
