Russian rally car crew set off before crash that left co-driver dead

This footage shows the final moments before this rally car crew were involved in a crash that left the co-driver dead and the driver seriously injured.

The rally car crew saluted the crowd as their names and number were announced.

This tragedy occurred at the first stage of the Russian Trophy-Raid Championship, held in the Krasnodar.

Co-driver Alexander Eryzhinsky, 33, died and driver Mikhail Tchaikovsky, 45, was injured in the crash and hospitalised.

Russian media reported that the crew of two was participating in the first stage of the off-road driving competition when Tchaikovsky lost control over the car, near Ostroy mountain, and the vehicle rolled over.

Co-driver Eryzhinsky, 33, sitting in the passenger seat, died almost immediately, they reported.
