In a bid to set a new World Record, over 4,500 tribal women from the Konyak tribe in northeast India’s Nagaland state, danced to the beat of a hymn earlier in April. The programme took place on Apr. 5 in Mon district of the state.

Visuals showed a large group of women, dressed in bright red tribal costume, syncing moves to the beat of a poignant hymn. The woman danced for five minutes and one second.

Reports stated at least 4,700 Konyak women, from 115 villages, participated in the event to try and create the new record.

It was part of Aoleang Mini Hornbill Festival, which takes place annually in the district.

Though officials from the Guinness Book of World Records could not be present, two representatives from the state, Veswuzo Phesao and Tali Temjen, were present. Phesao is a member of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), while Tenjen is a fitness choreographer.

The organizers said they decided to go ahead with the programme in order to preserve Konyak heritage, which is one of the 16 Naga tribes.
