This is the heartwarming moment a bird suffering from heat exhaustion was saved by a pedestrian.

Jayr Santuyo, 39, was leaving his home in Laguna, the Philippines yesterday morning (April 25) when he noticed the tiny creature passed out on the ground.

The black Maya bird could not move properly and it was barely conscious, with its fragile chest moving in and out slowly.

But the barber carefully cradled the bird in his hands and gently rubbed its belly until it showed signs of life again.

Jayr said: ''It was a very hot morning. I put some pressure on its chest until it moved a little.''

The father-of-two said then gave the bird some water to drink and dabbed some water on its body, to help cool it down as temperatures outside neared 40c, amidst the El Nino warm phase.

"I left the bird to rest in our backyard in the tree,'' Jayr added.

''It was perched for about half an hour just recovering until it was strong enough then it flew away.''
