A great video has emerged from China of a fake Eiffel Tower standing in the middle of a vegetable field in north Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

The 108-metre structure is one third of the size of the original Eiffel Tower and sits next to an imitation Avenue des Champs-Élysée.

The ambitious project was intended to be a Parisian-style housing estate but, according to local news reports, the construction site was abandoned several years ago.

According to nearby residents a number of local people are now taking advantage of the vacant plots of land around the site to grow vegetables including cabbages, celeries, tomatoes and carrots.

These part-time vegetable growers told a local news report they believe their home-grown produce is healthier than vegetables they can find in the local markets.

The completion date of the construction project remains unknown.
