An interesting video has emerged of a small bird managing to outpace a fast-moving cyclist on a road in Chileno Valley, CA, US.

The bird can be seen right down at tarmac level going flat-out in front of the bike.

The filmer believes the odd sight may have been a 'distraction display', where a bird tries to distract a potential predator with odd behaviour so they don't spot something else - generally a nest or the creature's young.

Although the footage was captured by a helmet camera earlier in the year, it has only recently emerged online.
