Record numbers of people take to the streets of Hong Kong for the second consecutive week to oppose the extradition bill being considered by Chief Executive Carrie Lam.
Despite the suspension of talks on the bill 24 hours earlier, the march went ahead to demonstrate the level of opposition to the bill that could see Hong Kongers and foreigners alike removed from the region to face trial and jail on the Chinese mainland.
An estimated 2 million people shuffled slowly the 4.5 km from Victoria Park to the government offices in Admiralty.
All dressed in black, with white ribbons on their chests, many protesters brought flowers to lay on makeshift shrines outside Pacific place mall. The evening before a protester fell to his death while unfurling a protest banner.
The “raincoat man” has now become a symbol of this protest with yellow raincoats used on banners and on artwork.
