This is the heroic moment brave great-grandmother Mari Parker, 72, was captured on CCTV fighting off a 6ft bike thief in South Yorkshire, England.

CCTV footage shows a male in his 20's wearing a hooded top inside Barnsley Antique Centre on Sunday (October 13). He is then seen grabbing a bike from the shop and leaving, as the 5ft 3in pensioner attempts to stop him. Two shoppers are also seen exiting the shop quickly after.

Further CCTV footage from outside Barnsley Antiques Centre shows the hooded man as he enters the shop. He is later shown leaving with a bike, as the pensioner attempts to wrestle the bike from his arms. Two shoppers are then seen arguing with the hooded man before he walks away.

The gran-of-eight works part-time in Barnsley Antiques Centre alongside her son, who revealed to Newsflare that the un-named man had previously entered the shop, trying to flog a £1,200 bicycle.

Luckily the pair recognised the bike as stolen from a notice posted by a local 13-year-old boy on the Facebook group Stolen Bikes Barnsley Area and refused to let the un-named man leave their store with the stole bike.

The thug returned half an hour later and tried to take the bike back by force, leading the pensioner to engage in a a gruelling minute-long tug-of-war. The hooded man can been seen violently pulling at the bike but his efforts were thwarted by the determined OAP and he eventually flees empty-handed.

Mari Parker's son told Newsflare that his mother was left with cuts on both her hands.

A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Police confirmed: "Police received a report about a suspected stolen bike being brought into the Barnsley Antiques Centre on Doncaster Road.

"A 23-year-old Doncaster man was arrested in connection to this matter and interviewed by officers.”

The bike was eventually returned to its rightful owner, who later decided not to press charges.
