Tourists are enjoying Thailand's cooler winter weather by picking chamomile flowers to use in herbal tea.

The flower, which has a calming effect, is currently in season at the Buachomphu Na Jomkhiri garden in Chiang Mai, in the north of the country.

Temperatures in the mountainous region have dropped this week to as low as 6C, which is perfect for the daisy-like plants to bloom.

The garden owner, Sarunya Kittikhunpisarn, said that she had been planting flowers and vegetables for more than 11 years before opening it up to tourists.

She said: "I opened the garden so the tourists will bring income for the area, but normally we rely on harvesting organic plants, vegetables and flowers.

"Beside the herbal tea made from the flowers in the garden, I have invited local tribesmen to craft their goods to sell here as they are struggling with farming due to the lack of water."

The garden provides several flowers for the tourists to pick including camomile, rose and butterfly pea. They can then learn how to turn them into herbal tea and take the supplies they have picked home for themselves to drink later.
