A two-month-old pup got separated from its mother and was found trapped in a garden fence in Kendrapara district of Odisha on December 14.

Looking for its mother, it tried to squeeze through the metal fence and got trapped.

A few villagers attempted to free the pup but were fearful of causing it further injury so they called a local rescue centre who patiently cut the fence and freed the dog.

Subhendu Mallik, founder of Snake Helpline, said: "Although we mostly rescue snakes, at times we break rules to help other animals also.”

Looking for its mother, it tried to squeeze through the metal strings and got itself badly trapped.

It struggled to free itself and that only made it worse as the strings tightened their hold on the poor animal.

A few villagers tried to free the pup but gave up fearing they might hurt it as the strings had wound up tightly around its neck.

They called a local Snake Helpline volunteer, Nalini Kant Das for help. Nalini worked patiently and gently cut the strings around the puppy to set it free.

He then looked for the mother and reunited the pup with her.
