Local residents continue going in and out of the Philippines' Taal Volcano island to rescue some of the animals that survived the eruption on January 12.

Volunteers use boats across the lake to bring horses and other animals to safety.

Horseback-riding is a popular attraction in Taal, which is why the island became home to almost 3,000 horses.

Local Sonny Rivas said that they are also using this opportunity to check some of their belongings that were left during the mass evacuation.

"We salvage whatever we can because we can no longer go back there. It is dangerous."

Nearly 44,000 people have fled the danger zone around the volcano, and are now staying at evacuation centers in around Batangas.
