Residents of the Solok Regency of use ropes to cross a river after three-metre-high floods destroyed the bridge.

Filmed on February 8, a large group of locals can be seen attaching themselves to the rope via a harness and then being hauled over the fast-flowing river.

Of the 74 people trapped, only 10 wished to be evacuated as the others wanted to tend to their durian fields.

High rainfall since Friday night, February 7, 2020, caused the Batang Laweh river flow in Nagari Sungai Durian, District IX Koto Sungai Lasi, Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia to overflow with swift currents.

The height of the water which reaches three meters causes the bridge that connects the residents to the fields to be lost in the current.

At the time of the incident, there were 75 residents who were on the opposite side or in their fields. As a result, 74 residents were isolated.

Helping evacuation of residents, officers from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Solok Regency who are assisted by volunteers and residents must use a rope across the swift river currents.

Residents trapped on the other side of the river, picked up and rescued so that they were not too long isolated. But of the 74 people trapped, only 10 people wanted to be evacuated. The rest chose to stay, because durian in their fields were harvesting.
Eventually the local government had to send food and other necessities to the 64 residents, while waiting for the river water to recede and the construction of an emergency bridge.
