A diver ventured to the bottom of the Key Largo coast in Florida to visit the "Christ of the Abyss" statue.

Filmed on January 24 the footage shows the angelic sight of the statue as the light bears down through the surface of the water above.

The filmer explained: "Took a trip out to the Dry Docks area of the Key Largo reefs to visit the Christ of the Abyss statue and do some snorkelling.

"I saw a big school of photogenic french grunt fish - I believe that is what they are called - as well as some Barracudas, French Angels and Parrot Fish.

"Visibility was pretty good and currents were not very strong and had a beautiful day with the sun almost setting giving great light."

The nine-foot-tall bronze statue was lowered into 25 feet of water on August 25, 1965.

There are two other bronze "Christ of the Abyss" statues located in Italy and Grenada and were erected in 1954 and 1961, respectively.
