Shortly after 0400 on Februrary 24, 2020 a working fire was struck for 652 Bear Valley Avenue in Shamokin. Ems arrived on scene and confirmed fire showing and unknown status of one house after evacuating the block.
Fire Chief Steve Jeffrey, confirmed the fire crews found heavy fire upon arrival on the second division of 650 and 652 Bear Valley Ave. "We think 652 is the origin," "Right now we are in the process of investigating and talking with all occupants" "Our guys got here right away, got inside and did a primary search and found no one inside," Jeffrey said. "Because of a collapse issue, we pulled everybody out for a defensive operation."
PP & L cut power to the grid due to the proximity of the power lines to the homes. Power has been restored to the area.
The blaze was brought under control in approximately 90 minutes with the first crews being released around 08:00 hrs. Fire crews are expected to remain on the scene most of the day monitoring for hotspots.
The fire consumed 8 homes in total 644 to 658 Bear Valley Ave.
Fire crews from 3 counties fought this blaze or transferred closer for coverage
No injuries were reported.

At approximately 03:00 hrs. 1 hour before the fire was reported to the County 911 center after an explosion was heard. Danielle Guinther of Shamokin "We saw a big flash and my husband and I looked out the window and I said there were huge flames and I thought it was the house next door and they have a lot of kids so we ran and we started banging on doors and called 911," "When I first come up, it was nothing but smoke and flames through the whole avenue here.”
The Red Cross is assisting all of the fire.
The fire is currently under investigating.
