TREASURE HUNT: Over 500 gold coins worth $89,802 found during excavation at 1800-year-old temple in Southern India

Digging for construction work at Jambukeswarar Akhilandeswari Amman temple unearthed treasure vessel filled with gold coins worth $ 89,802 in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The treasure was unearthed on February 26 at a famous Shiva temple in Trichy district.

The video shows the unearthed vessel and the gold coins being counted.

According to the reports, the temple was built by King Kocengannan during Cholas rule roughly 1,800 years ago.

It also believed the place Jambu forest was found by the goddess Parvathi the wife lord Shiva.

The coins found had Arabic inscription and are believed to date back to 1000-1200 Common Era.

The staff from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR & CE) checked the coins in the presence of the local cops.

The recovered vessel with coins is kept in treasury for further investigation.
