A rare video shows two enormous male snakes, an Indian cobra and an Indian rat snake fighting over a female in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

The incident took place at Khanapur, on March 10, 2020.

The visual shows, a man lurking behind a bush as the snakes entangle to each other to mark the start of the fight.

Amid the fight, he goes on to grab the snakes and separates them.

“Two male snakes are having a wrestling match to determine who gets the female. It's funny that even their territorial battles are harmless,” the man says.

The fight went on for several minutes, but neither snake was injured. The man believes that the snakes met as they followed the pheromones released by a female one.

Dhaman or Indian rat snake can grow up to 8ft in length and lives in seclusion.

The rat snake generally prefers forest floors, wetlands, paddy fields, farmland and suburban areas where it preys on small reptiles, frogs, rats and mice. 
Wary, quick to react and fast-moving, it can disappear in a trice when alarmed or attacked by humans.

While, Indian cobras are big, quick, dangerously venomous snakes that are extremely territorial.

According to sources, the snakes were released back to the wild, where they could continue fighting, however, they probably wouldn't care about fighting much anymore because the female would be gone.
