Locals were appalled when an audacious kidnapping of a six-year-old girl took place in broad daylight in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

The incident took place at Punagam on March 15, 2020.

The abducted girl belonged to a labouring family living under a bridge in front of Reshma Row House near Parvat Patia.

According to reports, the accused couple befriended the family two days prior to the incident.

On the day of the abduction, the family took their three girls for a bath in the river.

Following this, the duo discreetly picked up the six-year-old girl and escaped the area in an auto-rickshaw.

The video shows a man carrying the girl child, with a woman accompanying him.

After a one-hour-long search, the girl was still missing.

A complaint was filed at the local police station 6 PM later that evening.

Police reviewed the CCTV footage of the nearby area and spotted the accused couple with the girl.

"After we got the information, we found out that the accused couple secretly picked up the girl during the bath. She made some noises that alerted her sister, but no one else noticed. The accused couple was last seen with the girl in an auto-rickshaw, " Police Inspector VU Gadaria said.

Five police teams have been formed who are investigating the case further.
