The deserted departures hall at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, this morning as a Covid-19 travel ban keeps tourists away.

The airport is usually swarming with holidaymakers from around the world but it has been virtually deserted after dozens of airlines cancelled flights and travel bans were enforced.

The only people at the airport are now those catching domestic flights or stranded tourists waiting at the airport for cancellations or evacuation flights from their governments.

The filmer, who was leaving the capital to see her family in the north of the country, said the airport had never been so quiet.

Many domestic airlines have also cancelled flights.

Thailand also has a travel ban in place preventing non-residents from entering the country until further notice. Even Thai nationals have to show evidence that they are healthy before returning to the country.
