Officials in Northeast India's Sikkim rescued and released a bear that strayed off from the wild into human habitat earlier in April.

The animal was spotted in the state capital Gangtok on April 1.

After capturing the bear and keeping it in their facility, the animal was released on April 5, reports said.

Visuals showed the bear quenching its thirst while being locked inside a metal cage.

Another visual showed officials lifting up the gate of the cage to let the bear out, however, they had to wait for a while as the animal didn't venture out immediately.

Officials were seen whistling and making noises in an attempt to scare the bear away and also cheered when it moved out.

Reports said the bear was released in the Doklam area.

The operation was carried out by a joint team comprising of personnel from the forest department, army, and the police.

Before its capture, the bear had injured a man.
