Wildlife officials rescued a python with twenty-two eggs from inside a jewellery shop in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

The incident took place in Kannur district on May 2.

All the shops across the country were shut for over a month due to the nationwide lockdown, imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The snake's presence was noticed after the jewellery shop was open for cleaning.

Forest officials, who were summoned, believe that the python had taken shelter inside the shop to lay eggs and incubate.

The video showed forest officials catching the python and putting it inside a bag.

The python was rescued and moved to a sanctuary.

Meanwhile, the python's presence has left locals scared. They stood outside the shop when the rescue operation was being done by the forest officials.

Later, the forest department will take measures to incubate the eggs.
