A pair of pelicans were found injured in east India after being caught up in cyclone Amphan, and were rescued by wildlife workers.

The birds were recovered from the port of Paradeep, in Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha on May 25.

Reportedly other pelicans have been discovered in mobile towers and recovered by forest officials, according to Arjun Sahu, a social activist for Animals.

Other kinds of rare birds are also reported to have been injured during the cyclone and left on the ground at various places including GJI colony and Madhuban area of Paradeep.

It has been learnt that many migratory birds flock to the Paradeep Port limited water body of Paradip every year during winter. Some of them return while some other states back.
These pelicans are said to be among those birds had stayed back. As per the locals, it could not face the strong wind due to Amphan cyclone and fell on the ground from the sky. After falling, it could not fly again despite its repeated attempts. Some are also seen in mobile towers and recovered by forest officials said Arjun Sahu, Social Activist for Animals.
As per reports, some rare birds fell on the ground at various places including GJI colony and Madhuban area of Paradip. Following the incident, locals flocked to these spots to witness the rare birds.After this incident people search various areas and found many more American Pelican varieties of rare birds and handed over it to forest department after proper treatment.
