Wild elephant strays into neighbourhood, causes panic among locals in eastern India's West Bengal

Panic gripped locals of a village in eastern India's West Bengal after a wild elephant strayed into the neighbourhood from the surrounding forests.

The incident took place in Jitusol village of Jhargram district on June 29.

Visual showed the pachyderm being chased away by locals as it meanders through the highway. Seeing the pachyderm move, several trucks were left stranded as the drivers feared an attack.

The elephant was seen moving towards a truck, hoping to plunder grains from the vehicle, however, it was driven away by a group of people.

Following the chase, the pachyderm managed to enter a rice mill and cause havoc.

Visuals captured the pachyderm tearing through a sack of rice and stuffing its mouth with grains.

According to reports, the pachyderm fled to the surrounding forests after the incident.

The attack has caused panic among locals, even though the area is prone to elephant attacks.
