While standing on the rocks edge, this surfer got caught by a crashing wave and launched off his feet, straight into the water.

The surfer, who amazingly manages to keep hold of the surfboard, continues to get slammed by massive waves while attempting to swim into calmer water nearby.

The filmer, 22-year-old Isaac Volegoff, captured the video by chance while walking near Terrigal Beach in New South Wales, Australia on Monday (July 27).

He told Newsflare: "I don’t know the surfer, however, his friend found me on Instagram and told me that besides breaking his fin, the surfer - who wishes to remain anonymous - was okay."

I don’t know the surfer, however his friend contacted me to say that it was his mate. Besides breaking his fin, the surfer was ok. His friend said that he didn’t want to be identified (a bit of an embarrassing surfing moment), but said that he was fine for me to use the video.

The friend found me on Instagram. Yeah no worries.
