Invasive Himalayan Balsam Luring Monarch Butterflies to their extinction

Buy video

he relationship between Monarch Butterflies and those people who actively go out of their way to protect and save them from extinction is truly magical. I finally found out the name of the plant which has fooled Monarch Mamas to lay their eggs on them for the past 3 years in my garden and it's not good news. The Himalayan Balsam lures Monarch Butterflies by resembling a native milkweed plant with its sweet smell attracting many other pollinating insects who ignore native flowering plants to fest on its sweet nectar. All Monarch butterfly eggs will most certainly die when the caterpillars hatch as it is not a food source. Imagine that this literally wipes out hundreds maybe thousands of eggs. This alien plant changes the chemistry of the soil it grows in which is not favourable to native plants therefore causing much damage to biodiversity. Please if you see a Himalayan Balsam in your garden pull them out before the end of AUGUST.
