Typhoon Maysak, locally called Typhoon number 9, lashed Japan's Okinawa region with ferocious winds and heavy rains from Monday evening.

Tuesday morning saw uprooted trees line the streets of the southern islands. The typhoon hurtled towards Japan's southern islands and is expected to hit Kyushu before it barrels toward South Korea.
