Riverside homes severely flooded during rainy season in the Philippines
Homes were flooded after heavy rain Mandaue City, the Philippines, on October 4, as residents battled to salvage their belongings from the 3ft-deep water.
Onlookers said their area was battered with the muddy torrents as the country reaches the peak of its annual rainy season. They are now pleading with the local government to put barriers around the river.
Marvin Geniston said: "Our properties have been damaged because of the flash floods. A structure around the river would help us, I hope it will be built soon."
More than 480 homes were submerged after torrential rains hit several villages around the Butuanon river.
Displaced families are staying at temporary shelters at a school building until the water recedes.
The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand and Malaysia are at the peak of the annual rainy season, which sees regular tropical storms.
