Argentine footballing legend Diego Maradona has passed away aged 60.

Maradona's attorney has said the icon died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The former Napoli player was submitted into hospital last month after suffering from a blood clot.

Footage filmed earlier this year shows Maradona in Mexico, at a press conference in Rosario, Argentina and greeting Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.

Diego Maradona began self-isolating Tuesday after a person he works closely with showed symptoms of Covid-19. He will remain in quarantine until test results are known.

A bodyguard "woke up with Covid-19 symptoms and went into preventative quarantine until the relevant tests are carried out," added local sports paper Olé.

"Just in case and until there is more information, Maradona will remain confined at home," said Pagina/12 website, quoting "inside sources."

The footballing great, who led Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986, turns 60 years old on Friday and Gimnasia are due to play Patronato that same day.

Maradona, who has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and poor health, is considered at high risk of coronavirus complications should he be infected. He has suffered two heart attacks in the past and contracted hepatitis.

Several weeks ago he went into self-isolation after one of his players contracted the coronavirus and last week he skipped training again.

Argentina has recorded more than a million coronavirus cases amongst its 44 million population with 29,000 deaths.
